Insights to the sulfate resistance and microstructures of alkali-activated metakaolin/slag pastes

In this work, the effects of slag addition on geopolymerization process and sulfate resistance alkali-activated cement were studied. The substitution metakaolin by increased reactivity precursors, contributing to a higher reaction rate accelerating process. mechanical properties significantly improved with incorporation slag. results show that transformation gel phases development pore structures vital reasons for improvement resistance. quantity C-A-S-H generation content consequently more compact microstructure. refinement came from space-filling capacity phase filling effect particles. optimum replacement level was 30 wt%, in terms potential damage ettringite. This work provides reference utilization granulated blast furnace based geopolymer, which is great value urging geopolymer towards practical application harsh environment.
